If you thought 2016 can’t get any worse, the Korean Pop (Kpop) group that brought you “Fire,” “I Don’t Care,” and “Come Back Home” has officially disbanded.
YG Entertainment who handles 2NE1 announced the disbandment of its seven-year-old girl group today through a statement.
Earlier this year, 2NE1’s youngest member, Minzy, has officially left the group following 2NE1’s contract expiration with the music company. While CL has been pursuing a music career in the United States.
Koreaboo has translated YG’s official statement, and it read:
As of May 2016, 2NE1’s exclusive contract with YG was over and as Minzy was no longer able to continue with us YG and the other members after long discussion have decided to officially disband 2NE1.
As 2NE1 has been the representing girl group of YG for the last 7 years, we cannot express how sad we are, however we have decided that it would be too hard for them to keep going and rather than wait on 2NE1’s activities without promise of when it will happen decided to focus on the members’ solo careers.
We would like to thank everyone for their love and support for 2NE1 and their music.
As of 2016 May we have signed solo artist contracts with CL and Sandara Park and Park Bom has not resigned with YG
We will miss you, 2NE1 🙁
