Julius Babao is a streetwear hobbyist on days off

I know what you’re thinking: ABS-CBN senior correspondent Julius Babao and streetwear don’t belong in the same sentence. On casual weekends, Babao fills in as DJ for Kapamilya’s radio arm DZMM.

And as far as casual goes, who knew that aside from looking dapper on nightly news, Babao is a hypebeast with a deep affinity for Supreme merch:

Of course, it got everybody talking, primarily Babao’s fellow hypebeasts. Some are impressed to the point of fascination, while a handful can’t help but let their elitist douchery flag fly:

In an interview with Scout, Babao revealed that he was actually overwhelmed with the variety of reactions from a lot of people on social media. “As Hugh Grant once said in a movie, ‘It’s surreal, but nice,’” he said.

But contrary to mainstream belief (that he’s gurang to pull the style), Babao just seemed genuinely taken with streetwear, or in his fanboy-ish case, Supreme apparel’s comfort than being part of a scene that is “heavily patronized.”

“I guess I wear what I want to wear. It depends on my mood and on the occasion. I’m comfortable wearing street clothing just as I am comfortable wearing a suit, a leather jacket or a simple shirt and jeans,” he said.

Babao’s non-threatening interest in streetwear is interpreted as bandwagoning in light of brand sensitivity, not to mention the overdone marketing behind its exclusivity. But at the end of the day, hating was and never will be cool.
