Stop whatever you are doing. Miss Universe is happening in Manila and there’s no stopping it.
On Thursday, Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo announced that the coronation of Pia Wurtzbach’s successor is set at the Mall of Asia Arena on January 30, 5AM.
“This is one proud moment for all of us Filipinos to be a witness to the reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach of Cagayan De Oro as she takes her final walk and passes her crown in her home country, the Philippines,” Teo said in a report by ABS-CBN.
The Philippines will be represented by 25-year-old Maxine Medina in next year’s pageant.
The glorious pageant was finally set in stone even after rumors that it will be canceled, and even a petition to reconsider holding Miss Universe in the Philippines.
“The Miss Universe 2016 in Manila is brought to you by the DOT, Miss Universe Organization (MUO), LCS Group of Companies …in partnership with Okada Manila, SM Group of Companies, Solar Ent Corp, our broadcast partner,” Teo announced.
“We are counting on you, our media partners, event partners, sponsors, to join us as we welcome the Miss Universe candidates, their followers, and their supporters from all over the world. Together, let us show them the soul of the Philippines, and our warm Filipino hospitality,” Teo said.
Two other Miss Universe that came from the Philippines are Margie Moran in 1973 and Gloria Diaz in 1969.
