Like many Filipinos, Bea Alonzo loves taking photos and selfies. But if there’s one thing she despises about Filipino’s fascination for snapshots and instant online engagement, it’s the cynical vibe that predominates in social networking sites these days. In fact, Bea doesn’t even have a Facebook account.
“I’m not on Facebook, because I want my friends to see me face-to-face. But I have an Instagram account, where I follow foodies, street-style fashionistas and interior designers.”
Why isn’t she invested in social media?
“I don’t like all the negativity. Moreover, it takes a lot of responsibility to have so many followers (she has 3.1 million followers on Instagram), so I have to be careful with what I post. I enjoy the spur-of-the-moment spontaneity of taking selfies and candid photos.”
She says she draws inspiration from her work and from Gerald Anderson, her current boyfriend. “I draw inspiration from my true love (referring to Gerald) and from work especially when I’m surrounded by the people I like.”
She was brought up by three women in her life: her mom, grandmother and aunt. Her constant moving around, she said in interviews, left her lonely and cut off from the rest of the world during her teenage years.
“I’m very stubborn, headstrong and independent. Growing up I had this burning passion to make something big with my life. That’s why I turned to acting at a young age,” she reveals.
Change is something she wants to embrace this 2019. That’s why she posted photos of herself in swimsuits and bikinis during a trip to Palawan last February.
“I wanted to forget about how I hated myself for being “fat” in other people’s eyes and just remember the things that I have loved about my body,” she shares in an Instagram post.
She wants to experience life and live more this year. “I want everyone to see the importance of being confident in your own skin,” she explains further in her Instagram post.
And when she’s not busy with acting commitments, she enjoys travelling and taking a lot of photos. What are the top moments she wants to capture in her photos? “I take a lot of photos when I travel to my favorite travel destinations. When I take pictures of myself: I want my photos to reflect how I feel everytime I wake up in the morning. I’m always thankful for the blessings coming my way.”
Her tips on staying beautiful: “I have two: inner peace and knowing myself. Always make it a point to feel good about yourself. Share love and happiness para ‘yun din ang bumalik sa ‘yo.”
