Let’s face it – prom preparations are not cheap – you have to find your perfect dress, get your hair just right, and make sure you look picture perfect for the night that you won’t get to relive. When you think about it, why are you going to spend thousands for a look you’re only going to wear for a few hours? Maybe you’ve got other things on your mind – what if you get a makeup artist and your look doesn’t turn out the way you want it to?
Thanks to the Internet, Youtubers and all the beauty gurus who share their best tips and tricks with the world, it doesn’t take much for you to learn to do your makeup and complete a look you’re actually proud you did yourself.
Now, if you’re worried about shelling out money for high-end makeup when you’re just a beginner, don’t worry. We found products that are going to give you a full face for under P1,500, and tips on how you can maximize them. Check them out.
If you’re going to be on that dance floor, clashing with sweaty bodies all night, then primer is definitely a must. You want your makeup to look flawless and stay on all night, after all. If you have dry skin, skip the primer and instead make sure you moisturize well before applying any foundation. For oily skin types, try using a mattifying primer that can keep oil at bay and reduce the appearance of your pores.

This is probably the one thing in your look you shouldn’t limit yourself on. Make sure you pick a good foundation that’s going to stick all night, even if your contour and blush are all but gone.
Good news! You can score your favorite L’Oreal products for up to 50% off on their ongoing Summer Sale! You can get the L’Oreal Infallible 24-hour Foundation for P525 until April 2. Another option is L’Oreal’s True Match Foundation, on sale for P450.
For cheaper options, try these other foundations:
Wet N’ Wild’s Coverall Cream Foundation, P399
Makeup World Cover Up Foundation, P299
Contour, blush, highlight – and lips!
You might see your favorite beauty bloggers posting their selfies with sculpted cheeks and that megawatt highlight. Take note though, you don’t have to go crazy. If you contour too harshly, it’s probably not going to look good in photos. Try doing it subtly, and remember that your contour should begin above your ear, downwards to where your eyes start to create the most natural shape. Do the fish face by sucking in your cheeks and start sculpting away. If you’re new at this, try using a spoon. Yup, you read that right. Hold it against your cheek and run your brush over it. For more on this, watch this video.
Here’s a steal: this palette has eight eyeshadows, eight lipsticks, and two blushes. The best part? One of the blushes is cool toned, which means you can use it as your contour! Get the Makeup World Transformation Palette in Day/Night for P475 at BeautyMNL.
Eyes and brows
Because the Transformation Palette already covered your eyeshadow needs, we’re down to three products: your eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, and mascara.
Your eyebrows frame your whole face, so this is one of the most important elements of your look. Use a light hand to fill in the sparse areas with a brow powder, since they’ll look better in photos. If you’re worried about messing up your brows though, try using a pencil. Make sure to blend everything with a spoolie. We’ll give you two options for pencil:
Maybelline’s Fashion Brow Cream Pen, P99 at BeautyMNL
Tony Moly’s Lovely Eyebrow Pencil already comes with a spoolie, P148 at BeautyMNL
If you’re down to use powder products on your brows, try City Color’s Bold Brow Eyebrow Powder for P245 at BeautyMNL and choose the shade that works for you.
Some people don’t feel the need to use eyeliner – let’s face it, hindi lahat kayang panindigan ang cat eye. It’s something most of us don’t always get right, and prom night isn’t exactly the time to experiment. But if you’re looking for a cheap eyeliner, here’s one.
You can score Maybelline’s Eye Studio Crayon Eyeliner for P99
Finish off your eye look with a coat of mascara, and you’re good to go.
Maybelline Hypercurl Mascara, P199. Watch out for Maybelline’s sales, you can score up to P100 off their products, including this one!
The good thing about not going to a makeup artist? You get to keep all these products and create as many looks as you want! A good start to building your own kikay kit.
