Let me preface by saying that yes, I am in fact an ARMY, or, if you’re not sure what that is, a BTS fan. And honestly, this is probably just me rambling about how much BTS’ latest release has been a blessing to me and fellow fans.

So let’s begin!

If you didn’t already know, last Friday (thankfully a holiday here in the Philippines), BTS, arguably the biggest music act in the world right now, released their first all-English track called “Dynamite”. With its funky bass line and overall 70s disco vibe, it’s been one big serotonin boost for many, myself included.

It’s been such a big hit (pun intended) that it now holds the record for most views in the first 24 hours of release with 101.1 million views. Dynamite is also the fastest song in iTunes history to reach #1 in 103 countries in the first 24 hours of release.

BTS have smashed all sorts of records with this one track, and I think that just goes to show how massive their growth has been since their last album. It’s almost like there’s a new ARMY everyday.

Recently, the group also released two remixes of the track, one EDM and the other “acoustic” (Can we really call it that, though? You decide.), and a B-side music video, all of which have been keeping us fans fed.

But aside from all the record-breaking content, it’s the funk and soul in this song that have proved how big a game changer this song was for me. Not to say that BTS hasn’t had either of those things in their music before, because they most definitely have. It’s just that there’s something about Dynamite that’s managed to lift my spirits like no other, and I think it has to do with their timing.

Based on the several interviews they’ve had in the past week alone, they said that they wanted to release something that would inspire joy and hope during these difficult times, and I think it’s safe to say that they succeeded in doing so.

Times are rough but sometimes, all we need to feel better is a fun, danceable bop to remind us that we’ll see better days. Don’t forget that you can bring the fire and set the night alight… light it up like dynamite!
