When it comes to daily clothing, I’ve always struggled over picking out an outfit that’s gonna make me feel my best all day. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but I usually end up choosing a gut feeling or safe ones like black and white.
To speed up my wardrobe browsing every damn morning and to also explore my fashionista side, I finally sought some fashion experts’ advice online. Turns out, you can make a whole lot more outfit choices that flatter your personality and lifestyle by simply having the right colors in your wardrobe.
I’m going to share with you some of the handiest tips in selecting wardrobe colors that I personally follow so you too can save more time when choosing your OOTD (outfit of the day.)
First things first
To achieve a cohesive color palette in your wardrobe, you can basically think of color in two ways: neutrals, which are generally bland colors like black, white, caramel, gray, and navy, and accent colors, which are bolder colors based on your preference or the season.

Another thing that you should know about is that colors are broken down into warm and cool colors.
Basically, a cohesive wardrobe will have an all-warm or all-cool color as fashion experts suggest that warm is always compatible with other warm colors and vice versa.
3 ways to pick your personal color palette
- Stay safe. Go with universal colors
These are considered as the perfect balance of warm and cool colors, making these the ideal colors for everyone. According to fashion experts, universal colors are black, pure white, blush pink, eggplant, teal, and true red.
If you want to spice up these colors, you can always wear them with accent-colored jewelry.
- Identify your undertone…that’s your true color!
For some who do not know this yet; skin tone is different from the undertone. Undertones are colors and tones under your skin. Unlike skin tone, undertones cannot be changed.
The four main categories of undertone are cool, warm, neutral, olive:

Tip to know your undertone: do the vein test. Flip your arm over and look at your veins. If they appear blue, you’re cool tone. If they are green, you’re warm tone, or olive. If they’re a little bit of both, you’re neutral.
Cool tone means cool colors should best suit you, warm tone means go for warm colors. Neutral means you’d look great in any colors — this is generally the case for olive undertones, too.
- Just follow your heart
Just like colors, your wardrobe should be fun. You should feel “you” when you wear them. If you feel fantastic wearing colors that don’t necessarily suit your undertone, don’t hesitate to wear them!
Remember, all of these tips are just here to guide you. When it comes to your personal clothing style, there are always rules that can be broken. What you wear is and will always be up to you!
Have a beauty full day!
