Millions of people here and abroad, whether Filipino or foreigner, have seen Disney’s Pinoy Christmas-theme advertisement on social media.
And if that’s not enough for the kid in us, the folks behind Mickey Mouse and friends made a follow-up video, this time showing a step-by-step process of how to make your own parol, or star lantern as the video calls it.
The parol played a prominent role in the tearjerking animated advertisement first released on November 9. It featured a Lola who taught her granddaughter to make parols — a common sight for her when her father handed her a Mickey Mouse doll as a young girl in the Christmas of 1940.
London-based Disney executive Angela Affinita, who has Filipino roots, had said that the advertisement’s story was based on her own experiences with her Lola.
Before we know it, we might see parols in places where there aren’t that many Pinoys.
